The Laser Designator is being develope for FLIR Systems under the US Army RDECOM CERDEC NVESD Class II UAV EO Sensors program. Fibertek's effort is to develop a fully functioning Laser Designator that can be integrated into FLIR System's 7.25" gimbal payload. The laser transmitter unit will weight <1lb and has an integrated electro-optic q-switch driver. A separate diode driver will provide the diode pump array the necessary electrical input. The laser utilizes the novel end pump laser technology developed by CERDEC NVESD. End pumping provides a long absorption path length for the diode pump light. This eliminates the need for fine temperature control on the diode laser.
